In addition to James's advice. There are some things (eg. some video drivers and some VMWare packages) that may need to be reinstalled after a kernel update. If you have previously installed any of these, reinstalling should not be a problem. However, make sure you include the kernel sources as part of the update. If you only have the normal OpenSuse packages installed, this will not be an issue and you should be good to go. Dave

To complement Dave' advice: I have opensuse mostly and also VMWare Server installed as well. I have just completed installed the kernel patch and so I tried opening VMWare. No luck until I executed the following command as root from a command line that I received from my Linux guru who initially installed VMWare Server: #> vmware-config.pl It will ask you a bunch of questions and you should not have to press anything other than Enter to answer each question as the default answer it proposes is normally correct and/or you want to keep whatever old settings are already configured. I have just started up my VMWare after the above command so you should not have any problems either. This being said though YMMV(your mileage may vary) Hylton -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
