amavis-new comes with SuSE and was installed on my system by default. It's really easy to add F-prot or Clamav to it for windows virus detection. It scans all your incoming mail and quarantines any viruses. As for protecting your SuSE book, rkhunter works well http://www.rootkit.nl/ and ckrootkit is another one http://www.chkrootkit.org/ (but I get false positives with it myself). Almost as much chance of a moon rock falling on your head as getting a virus in linux, but amavis will administer sophie, clam, openantivirus, f-prot, h+bedv, .... for you. 'man amavis' and read /etc/amavisd.conf. Simple root-kit protection (type of trojan) from a program like rkhunter, http://downloads.rootkit.nl/, would probably be enough. An rpm that is build on a SuSE system (will work with 9.1) is available from my site, http://wahoo.no-ip.org/~pat/rkhunter-1.1.4-2.cjo.ps.noarch.rpm -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
ClamAV. I use it on my mail server, my Samba servers, and anywhere that Windows users might conceivably touch my Unix systems. It has caught 100% of email-borne viruses that have been sent to anyone in my company. We have Norton Corporate in a server/client install to scan everyone's PC once a day, and it just twiddles its thumbs and looks stupid now, because nothing is coming in. Also Privoxy to block popups/spyware before they even enter your system. Misty On Sunday 08 August 2004 21:55, James F. Pirtle wrote:
