[opensuse] EULA Required for Updated OpenSuSE 10.2 Kernel Patch
I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be required to agree to a MS EULA! Anyone else think this a bit too much? The window title of the EULA agreement was "License Agreement for kernel-2705-patch-message-2 (message). Is this some kind of early April Fools Day joke? EULA? Where are you looking? I don't see a EULA anywhere, either when I run the update or when I look in the actual patch xml file. I see a message describing the contents of the patch, just like there has always been for kernel updates -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

As I stated, the Window appeared while I was performing an update (which is still being processed). There were 5 patches listed: kernel(Security)(noarch), kernel-default, kernel-source, yast2-printer, and yast2-printer(noarch). The window's title was clearly as I stated. I won't belabor the point. Terry, if click on MS true type fonts you'll see the one. You can check later and see that they are installed. It was just one "overclick". -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I assume it is zenupdater (Icon is a globe connected to what looks like a pipe). Yes, all the patches were marked for update by default. -- openSUSE 10.2 (i586) -- 2.6.18.2-34-default -- Sat 03/10/07 6:55pm up 11:08, 7 users, load average: 0.27, 0.29, 0.28 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I you use 10.2 default than it is zenupdater.
Yes, all the patches were marked for update by default.
Than you have MS True Type fonts installed, and the EULA was about them. I removed zen related stuff and use opensuse updater that just tells me that there are updates, and if I say Install than it starts YOU (YaST Online Update). It shows only real, oldfashioned security and bugfix updates. There is no newer versions of programs, like in zenupdater that usually come from additional repositories like Packman and Guru that produce newer package versions on regular basis and one has to deselect quite a few before update. I have time to review what has to be updated and, usually, just accept proposal. -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

For what it's worth, I did an update of the kernel today at noon, saw no EULA, but there was an agreement for the agfa TT fonts. I am now at: Linux master 2.6.18.8-0.1-default #1 SMP Fri Mar 2 13:51:59 UTC 2007 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux I assume your email signature is not current...what version does your "uname -a" show? The update is still working. It is at 25%. When the update finished I'll reboot and see what kernel version is being used. uname -a Linux linux 2.6.18.2-34-default #1 SMP Mon Nov 27 11:46:27 UTC 2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux -- openSUSE 10.2 (i586) -- 2.6.18.2-34-default -- Sat 03/10/07 7:25pm up 11:38, 6 users, load average: 0.12, 0.43, 0.39 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The kernel uses this message to ask for confirmation of installation. Its full text is: ............ This update can be used to install a new kernel. If you decide to use the kernel update, we recommend that you reboot your system upon completion of the YaST Online Update, as additional kernel modules may be needed which can only be loaded after the system is rebooted. If you are in the course of performing a new installation, you should deselect this kernel update in order to avoid problems with the hardware detection during the installation. ............... It is transported by means of a "license" message, but is not a license. It should not show EULA or Microsoft ;) If it does, it is definitely a bug.
