We have opensuse 11.4 and have been using KDE as the desktop over many suse releases.
The problem is that my wife is active on a number of community groups and needs to send a considerable variety of emails to various groups or sub-groups Early on she had distribution lists setup in Kmail and all was working OK. That was quite a while ago.
In the past couple of years we have moved through opensuse versions to 11.4 and upgrading KDE on the way to v4.6.5 with Kontact 1.13.6 & Kmail 1.13.6 and using the default addressbook. She has had to resort to basically entering the addresses manually which is rather slow .
Is there any simple way with the current versions we are using to setup distribution lists? Or could list members suggest an alternative mail client that does a better job with distribution lists.
dist lists are fixed in kmail in KDE 4.7.2+. That means upgrade to 12.1, or upgrade KDE only on your 11.4 install using the packages in KDE:Distro:Factory [*]
Well that is good to hear!
dist lists are generalized to 'Contact Groups' in kaddressbook now. To create a contact group, open kaddressbook, click New Group in the toolbar, then either select existing people from the addressbook, or if you only want them to exist in the distlist, not as a full contact, enter names and email addresses in the contact group dialog.
To use a dist list, type its name in the mail composer or use the Select.. button to pick it from the address book.
Will, I appreciate your advice on this, and will have a look at installing on 11.4 for now. This will make it easy for my wife who has a bit of difficulty adjusting to changes especially as she has been using Kmail since we moved over to suse from about v.8 or 9. I note that you are a KDE Developer and for that I say thank you, and also to all the other contributors who produce such a great desktop. thank you John -- -- John Canberra, A.C.T.
