Hi, I know this topic comes quite often but I would like to hear from people who hve a similar case. I am building a Terminal Server which will provide Desktop enviroment to thin clients of roughly 200 users. They will all be using graphical login and be running either KDE or GNOME along with the graphical Mail clients ( no mutt :-( no pine ) and mostly Office programs be either Koffice or Staroffice or OpenOffice. There has been numerous times various comparions of different filesystems ResiserFS, XFS ext3 etc. What I would like to hear is from users who have a similar setup and their experience with their choosen filesystem. If I don't hear its obvious nobody is running a system like that :-) -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx
Hi all! I´ve run in to a problem with my SuSE 7.2. Just recently i wanted to recompile my kernel but when i boot up the new kernel i get a error message saying "kernel panic : VFS : unable to mount root fs on 03:03" When i searched the SuSE support database i found a couple of answers, i tried both the mem (linux mem=256M) and check with yast1 in the configuration file for reiserfs support. None of them worked My boot and root partion is formated with ext2 but home, var and usr is formatted with reiserfs. When i try to recompile my kernel i´m not able to add reiserfs support in the kernel..It´s just marked grey.. Does anyone have a clue ? I would be very grateful for any hints. Thanks in advance Richard Klövfors

You probably said no to CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL. "marked grey" makes it sound like you are using xconfig...you really should use menuconfig instead. -- -ckm
Go to the Code Maturity menu and answer 'Y' for the only option there. You might also want to start with SuSE's base config, I think they hid it in the /boot partition (don't ask me why). Marc On Mon, 2002-05-13 at 17:25, Richard Klövfors wrote:

Then you're doing something wrong. We normally have reiserfs compiled as a module and placed in initrd. -- -ckm
