Hey Group; I did dowload the most recent NVidia file.run. Changed it to 755 and then confirmed the kernel "make cloneconfig" was done. I then ran the NVidia installer in runlevel 3 and it seemed that everything was installed correctly. Problem is that it seems that SaX2 and "X" (startx) locks up after the server is up. First I get the server gray screen with the big X (mouse) then comes the KDE back ground and last the startup box. It is at that point that the whole machine locks up. As best as I can tell it is missing some "nv" driver. The "nv" comes from /etc/X11/XF86config. This is on a NEW machine with parts - ASUS A7N7X-E, Asus FX5200 (Nvidia chipset) and a Athlon Barton 2800+. Are you sure your giving SaX2 enough time? I have a 2.5MHz Pentium and a Gig of Ram and the first time I did this I was convinced of the same thing because I was not giving SaX2 enough time to finish and aborted. It takes a while Run sax3 -m 0=nvidia and wait. Then reboot. When things are correct you should see the Nvidia spalsh screen for a second before the init 5 splash screen or the desktop if you are set to auto login. john On 16-May-04 Donn Washburn wrote:
