Was xdm, changed to kdm and restarted. I now get the familiar SuSE login screen and the Session Type in lower left BUT kde is not one of the choices, it defaults to fvwm. The default (which I set to kde in /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager) still comes up fvwm.
It may be simpler to reinstall!
Reinstalling may be a little draconian. How about uninstalling KDE and then reinstall, via yast, and reboot. ~James

Why would you reboot? And for the other things: The kid obviously doesn't have KDE installed or it would show up. Or he broke something, either way, install, restart X, use.
