[SLE] Permissions problem with Zen Updater on startup 10.1.
Hello, I did an update on 10.1 with Smart yesterday, Sunday, several of the updates were to do with the Zen Updater, libzyp, etc. On rebooting the PC and logging in I get an error message about needing superuser permissions to run Zen Updater. Upon closing this message the tray icon disappears as well. This happens on any user. I found a workaround by running rug ue username then +superuser. Is this the correct way of fixing this problem? Can I stop the error message for other users without making them have superuser privileges on rug? If you successfully used smart to do the update then why go backwards and try and use zen/zmd? Stay with smart.

I think what you need to do when you get that opening message to input the root's password is to ignore this request. By doing this, when you click on the zmd icon in the system tray you will *then* be asked for the root's password in order to do an update. You should be able to go Start/System/Configuration and click on the Update Software icon to get the icon in the system tray back. I have not seen this and it is a bug. What repositories do you use? Have you added unsigned repositories? ciao, Marcus -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
