That maybe, but it is also not a minority so small that one can ignore it. E.g., I have currently 72 packages installed that are not in any SUSE repository. (This does not count the dozens of packages from 3rd party repositories like JPackage or Packman.) These are mostly user-level open-source apps that I found on Sourceforge or via Freshmeat. I can imagine that others have similar needs. These are not special programs for very experienced users. I.e., these 72 packages do not include bleeding-edge software that I use for development or where I am part of the development group myself; which I install from the project's VCS or from their source distributions. Alone my Perl installation in /opt has almost a hundred installs and updates that are not available for SUSE's Perl. And I won't also start about all the Eclipse plugins that I need in their current version and that are the cause that I cannot use SUSE's Eclipse package. None of them is meant here. So, even without that development apps, there are still some apps that one may want to install. IMNSHO, to refer users who want to do that properly via rpm to writing a spec file is a Bad Thing(tm).
