I have a machine with 256 MB ram...... So that should not be a problem :-) I've found out that in the directory '/usr/share/splash' a link is created called 'bootsplash.*' which are linked to the correct picture. When you put in /etc/lilo.conf your vga on 771 then you get the penguin (that's a start...) but NO nice SuSE screen... Another strange thing is when you install with Yast2 there is an entry in the proc called : /proc/splash. Here you can control again the splashscreen. But when installing with Yast1 there is no such entry! So, anyone knowing the answer becomes one of my heroes!

HI Harry,
If you're writting about the Lilo splash screen, you need at least 64mb of
memory before it will work. If you have less only a green box will show at
boot.
Give us more details and I'm sure someone can help.

Yet more on the splash :-) I never could see the splash boot screen on my system. This is what I get when I am doing the initrd image: petit:/home/pep # mk_initrd using "/dev/hda8" as root device (mounted on "/" as "reiserfs") creating initrd "//boot/initrd" for kernel "//boot/vmlinuz" (2.4.10-4GB) module reiserfs is "/lib/modules/2.4.10-4GB/kernel/fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.o" -> insmod reiserfs Concatenating splash picture size 640x480 to initrd... No config file present (expected /usr/share/splash/bootsplash-640x480.cfg). And yes, in /usr/share/splash/ there is no bootsplash-640x480.cfg: petit:/home/pep # ls /usr/share/splash/*.cfg /usr/share/splash/bootsplash-1024x768.cfg /usr/share/splash/bootsplash-1280x1024.cfg /usr/share/splash/bootsplash-800x600.cfg /usr/share/splash/bootsplash.cfg By the way, why does it try 640x800? How do I set hihger resolution??? Cheers, Pep.

As for the size issue, the size is likely determined by your graphics card and what the system believes your card can support. If there isn't a proper framebuffer for your card then the best it can do is use the vga frame buffer which is max 640x480. You may want to look at the last cfg file and see if it really is the 640x480 cfg file and rename it. I don't have the bootsplash tools installed on my machine, and the machine it is installed on is offline right now so I can't check it.

Maybe your updated kernel doesn't have framebuffer support. I believe it needs it for you to get the whole splash (otherwise it is just the penguin. ). -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871
