hi all, is it really true that m$ is using gpl'd code to implement ipv6 in their products ?? i'm a little confused, maybe i missed something..... if this is true, i can only laugh about them. first they state that open software is against intellectual property (and unamerican, too). then mr. steve completely-dumb ballmer said that, if one is using such software, everything "around" and made with it must be free (of course, only from his point of view, reality is somewhat different....) now they are implementing an activation scheme to protect *their* software. if they really used the ipv6 in that way, the must be hit by some lawyers really soon and strong !!!! THEY are acting "unamerican" and against intellectual propperty by doing so. (btw, what is "american" ?) THEY breaking law by not following the rules of the license under which that ipv6 was made. THEY are making money out of others work without paying them et all, even worse, they denounce and FUDing them !!!! if this is the concept of this company, better they DIE NOW before causing too much damage to everyone !!! greets, chris -- visit me at http://mamalala.de

first they state that open software is against intellectual property (and unamerican, too).
then mr. steve completely-dumb ballmer said that, if one is using such software, everything "around" and made with it must be free (of course, only from his point of view, reality is somewhat different....)
now they are implementing an activation scheme to protect *their* software.

I think that what they are trying to do is to get open source programmers to do all the debugging for them and when M$ thinks the product is ready they'll make it proprietary and rip it away from the open source community, at least that's what I think they'll do, so if any open source programmers can see this message, do it for the sake of OSS and don't cooperate with M$, unless they pay you guys a lot!! =) well that's my opinion anyway!! well, typical m$...... they never developed any software themselves, instead they alwas steal/buy software (or whole companys)..... in fact, m$ isnt able to develop anything, because they never really had. this started with dos which they bought from a student (including the student) for a few bucks. at this time it was originally "qdos" -> Quick and Dirty Operating System guess why their os's are so weak...;-) but serious : if they really taken away code from the open source community, i think (according to the gpl) they are not allowed to sell this piece of software then. even if they f**ck it up with propitary extensions, its still based on a gpl product and must therefore be free (including source !!) if they do not so, they are really breaking laws by not following the gpl-license !! greets, chris -- visit me at http://mamalala.de

greets,
Come on, now, prove it, and there will be a court case. But rumors are useless. Also, FUD should be __Microsoft's__ business, not Linux's. If anyone can decompile an MS program (illegal, BTW, in many states now) and demonstrate a copy of GPL'd code, then I think the two should be displayed side-by-side on the Internet, so that the deception can never be denied. This should preferably done from another country, so that MS cannot sue to have it removed. But prove it. I am certainly not on MS's side, but let's not shoot ourselves in the foot! --doug
