[SLE] Dell Latitude CPx Docking Station Setup
Any and All, I've gotten Suse 6.3 setup on my Dell Latitude with no problems. If I use a pcmcia network card, I'm able to connect to my network. However, I'd like to be able to use the 10/100MB card in my docking station when I'm in the office. It appears that Suse isn't seeing the network card in the docking station. Has anyone gotten this combination to work? If so, any pointers are appreciated. I've been through the suse-linux-e archives and the Linux on Laptops site with not much useful information turned up. Troy, I've not got a Dell, but Compaq docking station with additional pcmcia slots. Can you be more specific about what's not working: does it see the pcmcia card but not configure the network, or does it not even see the card? Try doing a "cardctl status" and "cardctl ident" (or the X version "cardinfo") If the card's there, do an lsmod also to see if the dependencies for the card have been met by the correct modules loading (compare with what modules, usually called XXXXXXX_cs, loaded when the card does work in a lower numbered pcmcia slot). My guess is that the cardctl will show that the card's not even seen..... Get back and we'll probe further!! Sean Troy Denkinger wrote:

Thanks for the assistance, my apologies for not being clear. The Dell docking station actually has a built-in 10/100 NIC - no pcmcia slots. I _can_ get Suse/Linux to see the pcmcia NIC that I have in the notebook itself, but I can't get it to see the 3Com 3C920 card integrated into the docking station. Once I get this working, I'm going to have to figure out how to get it to see the integrated NIC when I'm docked and see the pcmcia card when it's not docked. But, first things first...
