[opensuse] WLAN connection dropping in 12.2
Hi, I saw that Per Jessen had this issue with an RC version of openSUSE 12.2, now I have it on my Thinkpad T61: my WLAN connection suddenly drops away. I do not need a reboot, a "rcnetwork restart" on the konsole or disabling and re-enabling WLAN connections in the network manager applet helps. But it is annoying. Is there any workaround? "hwinfo --wlan" tells me Model: "Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection" SubVendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" SubDevice: pci 0x1011 Revision: 0x61 Driver: "iwl4965" Driver Modules: "iwl4965" In /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0, I see BOOTPROTO='dhcp' MTU='1500' NAME='PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection' STARTMODE='auto' USERCONTROL='yes' WIRELESS_AP_SCANMODE='1' WIRELESS_AUTH_MODE='psk' WIRELESS_BITRATE='auto' WIRELESS_DEFAULT_KEY='0' WIRELESS_KEY_LENGTH='128' WIRELESS_MODE='Managed' WIRELESS_POWER='no' WIRELESS_WPA_PSK='dontbecomenosy' PREFIXLEN='32' - all other lines contain an empty string. Where is the problem, why does the connection go down? How can I make it permanent again, as it was on openSUSE 12.1? And why does gkrellm and knemo show a permanent network traffic of 100-500 kB/s, without any active software (except for akregator and pidgin)? There was a small workaround where you have to make it a "system connection". You can change that in the "Edit Connection Settings" window. Click on the NM Applet in the Sytem Tray and select "Manage connections...". Go to the "Wireless" tab and highlight the SSID that keeps dropping and press "Edit". Near the top you can enable it by placing a checkmark in "System Connection". -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thank you. My only WLAN connection is already a system connection. It still drops. Regards, Werner -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have the same issue here. It seems to work, when I'm closer to the WLAN-router, but with older versions (and with other Laptops) WLAN is fine at the same place in my flat. -- Johannes Weberhofer Weberhofer GmbH, Austria, Vienna -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Do you have the same network chipset? The very same laptop at the very same place :-) did not make any problems like that when running with openSUSE 12.1. The connection was a system connection in openSUSE 12.1 as well. Currently, I do not have another laptop running oS 12.2, but that might change during the week ;-) Regards, Werner -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The issue mentioned happens with a Thinkpad T61, WLAN hardware
Model: "Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection" SubVendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" SubDevice: pci 0x1011 Revision: 0x61 Driver: "iwl4965" Driver Modules: "iwl4965"
But on my netbook (Acer Aspire One D257) right to the right ;-) of the T61 this doesn't happen. hwinfo --wlan tells me here: Model: "Intel WLAN controller" SubVendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" SubDevice: pci 0x1005 Driver: "iwlwifi" Driver Modules: "iwlwifi" So it seems to be a problem of the driver. Following the text on <http://intellinuxwireless.org/?n=Info>, I should be able to replace T61's iwl4965 driver by iwlwifi, shouldn't I?
