OK, I am trying to get the VNC server running on my SuSE 6.4 (2.2.16) box. I downloaded the latest VNC from their website and followed their directions for running it. I execute the following command: Cd to directory hosting VNC ./vncserver (I have also tried executing the Xvnc and I have already established a password). After executing the above command, SuSE tells me "New X desktop is madness:1 (where madness is the host name). Now, I try to connect from a windows based machine using the vnc viewer and I always get the could not connect (ad-lib) error.. Anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here? I have tried to connect to the vnc server by both IP and host name. Thanks for any input!!! I think you must put the nameserve and the "vnc session" to start the X session. An example..... nameserver:1 ... Good Look. If you want I can send you examples of my linux files. regards noc@kulish.com escribe:

Hello, CK
After executing the above command, SuSE tells me "New X desktop is madness:1 (where madness is the host name).
Did you try putting ':1' (without the quotes) after the host name or IP address in the connection box ? When VNC server is invoked, it can be started using a different connection port. You can also try connecting using a web browser that has java support, i.e. http://madness:5800. 5800 is the default port, but if the server has been started on port 1, you would use port 5801 in the URL instead. Also, VNC stores a default password and a user password. Make sure you are using the right one when you try to connect. Maybe this'll help, maybe not. Good luck.
