Hello, there's something else in the logs I forgot to mention. This happends just before the connection is drop: Apr 21 22:36:05 gregg pppd[1099]: sent [LCP EchoRep id=0xc5 magic=0x58896215 1c 06 02 2d] Apr 21 22:36:06 gregg pppd[1099]: sent [LCP EchoReq id=0xd magic=0x58896215] Apr 21 22:36:06 gregg pppd[1099]: rcvd [LCP EchoRep id=0xd magic=0xaefddb9f] 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Apr 21 22:36:19 gregg kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out Apr 21 22:36:19 gregg kernel: eth0: Tx timed out, cable problem? I guess it is because the ISP peer has drop and the LCP echos are not sent anymore? But why is there a timeout in eth0? Shall the timeout be in ppp0? Or is there anything wrong with eth0? Thanks Pep Serrano.

Hello list,

Turn off the modem and disconnecting the RJ-11 plug for about 30 secounds then try connecting again. Charles -- "It's God. No, not Richard Stallman, or Linus Torvalds, but God." (By Matt Welsh)
Yes, OK. But what I want is to automatically reconnect when the line drops (they way you do with any other PPP persistent connection). Any more ideas?

By the way, why is it needed to restart the ADSL modem???

Sorry I was under the impression that you were able to reconnect before. As to reconnecting this will depend on: (1) Whether you are using PPPOA or PPPOE. (2) If you are using PPPOE, which client are you using? Sorry, but I can't help without more info.

According to the documents that I have read, this will resync the modem when all else fails. Charles -- A Linux machine! because a 486 is a terrible thing to waste! (By jjs@wintermute.ucr.edu, Joe Sloan)

Now this is really weird. I suggest you create an account at: http://www.dslreports.com/ and ask there. Charles -- "Whip me. Beat me. Make me maintain AIX." (By Stephan Zielinski)
