Had installed KDE2 and added it to the windowmanager list on the graphical login. Well, it wouldn't work. I then tried several other WMs from the drop-down list, and none of them work. I usually do not use the graphical login, so I never noticed this before. I can start the other WMs from the console as follows: #WINDOWMANAGER=gnome startx This works fine. Any ideas as to why the drop-down list does not work? Started KDE2 (using the above method) and the first thing I noticed was that although it retained my desktop shortcuts - all of the icons (except for a few of the default ones) were missing - they had been replaced by question marks. Is this just a simple matter of moving and or copying the icons (i.e. from KDE 1.1.2) so that KDE2 can find them? I logged out of KDE2 and restarted KDE1.1.2. For some reason "kicker" from KDE2 started also - so now I had to panels at the bottom of the screen. I could not get rid of the KDE2 one. Any ideas as to what I need to edit to get rid of this? From the SuSE menu that I've added, I can choose KInternet, but it shows up as a window on the desktop. Advices as to how to add it to the system
I tried to copy the shortcuts from KDE to KDE2, but to no avail. They didn't show up in the menu. However, I tried to rename the Suse menu to SuSE-KDE and then I copied the SuSE menu from KDE to KDE2 and that worked. There are other problems. When I start a KDE session, KInternet shows up in the System tray together with the Clipboard icon and the mixer icon. In KDE2, the KInternet and Mixer icons are missing. In another thread, I've mentioned the problems with the sound, so I won't go into detail with that. tray are received thanks. A security related issue which applies to both KDE and KDE2 is the config file of KMail. I assumed that it's right place would be at /home/niels or a subfolder of this, but I found it (them) in the respective subfolders of /opt. How do I configure the system to secure place such configuration files under /home/niels. The personal links stuff seems to be gone in KDE2, but if you want your links in the panel for instance use the file browser and browse to the location of the links. Now grab and drag to panel, it will ask you what you want to do, choose make into Quick Browser. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
