I am trying to install SuSE 11.1 (a clean upgrade form 10.3 which is currently on it) and it fails to start udev -- just hanging instead. The machine is an Athalon XP (32 bit) with 1 GB of ram. Looking on line, I found some people mention that adaptec controllers could cause this problem, so I have removed that. High precision clocks can too, but I don't think I have one of those.
