It's over a year since I've been using Linux and so far it has never
crashed on me requiring a hard reset. Today was the first day, I'd say
that's pretty good. One year no crashes -- how d'you like that M$?

What made it crash? Is that a year uptime, or just no crashes ever for a year? I'd swear that anyone who buys a distro and does not mess with it probably would never have many crashes, if any at all...My server has never been down for anything other than kernel updates, or drunken/tired mistakes :-). I'm not really sure. I was switching from a console to KDE (immediately after switching the other way), one of the terminals in KDE was in the middle of redrawing a Mutt window, and it just crashed. Couldn't switch consoles, couldn't do anything. ^C advanced the window frame by frame, if that makes any sense. Then complete blackness. The on/off switch didn't work, I had to use the reset button and reboot twice. I've had apparent freezes that later recovered, but this wasn't one of them. I updated XFree86 yesterday, perhaps something to do with that. Otherwise it has slightly improved performance. Not a year uptime, no crashes for a year. You should never let your Linux box near the alcohol, that just leaves the Up-dates! Terence
When I restarted KDE, all I got was a tiny black skull-and-crossbones
on a field of blue. Anyone seen this before? Is it like the Mac
X-eyes?
