Marton, Stay away from Mitsumi drives, very not Linux friendly from my previous experience with a few models. NEC, questionable and Samsung usable. Stay away from LG models, as they have a bug in the cdrw models that could prove hazardous. Ask Mandrake users about that. ;o)

Sony drives seem to work nicely, LiteOn drives, Acer, and many others. I think if those 3 are the only available to you, then Samsung would be my first choice.

Using ATI Radeon 9200 here, but believe the Powercolor unit will serve you well with the latest drivers.

Lee I have a Liteon on the Mandrake 9.2 box and a brand new MSI on this SuSE 9.0 box, both working fine. I gather that some Windows and other OS's experience problems with LG because they chose to misuse a command they thought no one would use, they just used it to destroy the microcode on the device - very bright eh?, so when Mandrake thought they were clearing cache, LG were happily destroying the microcode instead.
