Don't bother this list until you have tried sorting it- and failed- elsewhere.
ok, it's still failing elswhere so here I am. (those who wish not to be bothered, please ignore this question and any replies/answers it may generate.) To the rest of you Thanks for your help. -- dh Don't shop at GoogleGear.com!

It appears that I must appologize to Terence, I replied on list to a personal mail he sent me. I filter this list to a folder by subject, so personal replies appear there also. Unfortunately I don't always read the headers, I just reply to the list. Sorry for any Inconvenience, I'll try to pay more attention. =========================================================== BTW I'm still looking for an answer to this question (see subject): I recieve the following error message when I run apt-update; #dh1@linux: apt-get update Collecting File Provides... Done W: Release file did not contain checksum information for ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.1-i386/base/srclist.gnome2 W: Release file did not contain checksum information for ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.1-i386/base/srclist.packman-i386 W: Release file did not contain checksum information for ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.1-i386/base/srclist.packman-noarch W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems I have run apt-get update as suggested but the error continues. I'm not seeing any other problems but would like to remedy this I assume the error means that the checksum info was not available from the apt repository that is mentioned. But I'm only guessing Thanks for your ideas -- dh Don't shop at GoogleGear.com!

I see you're using kmail. Delete that filter, then right-click on any
mail from the list and select "filter on mailinglist". That will create
a filter based on the list headers, the way it should be done. Then
personal replies will be separate from list mail.

Thanks for the tip, I actually noticed that one the other day, I'd just never been bitten by it before. And here I thought I was so great when I stopped replying to both the list and the sender ;-) See ya -- dh Don't shop at GoogleGear.com!

David, I think Richard Bos answered a question similar to this about a month ago(?) I had the answer at one time but i've since reinstalled and forgot to save those emails. You can probably find it on the archives. It is probably save to continue with the apt-get, but to be on the safe side i guess you should wait till they get it straightened out. I think it's a server side issue rather than something you can control yourself. Franklin

Frank, you're right it seems a server problem. The above mentioned files are not available at the server. The easiest solution for this is to remove the components gnome2 packman-noarch and packman-i386 from the rpm-src line in the /etc/apt/sources.list file, this will prevent the error messages. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Thanks, I'll do it before I run apt-get update the next time. -- Franklin Maurer nebbish@sprynet.com SuSE 8.1
I found that /opt/kde3/bin/startkde includes:
# The user's personal KDE directory is usually $HOME/.kde3, but this
setting
# may be overridden by setting KDEHOME.
#
unset QTDIR
unset KDEDIR
unset KDEDIRS
My solution is to uncomment the unset of QTDIR and KDEDIR.
