I've upgraded my desktop-machine from SuSE 6.4 (kernel 2.2.14) to SuSE 7.1, intending to use kernel 2.4. When I select the 2.4 kernel in yast, it seems to install it, reruns lilo... and I reboot, only to end up with the 2.2.18 again... I've tried this several times (even selecting 2.4 for i386 doesn't work). Help? Kind regards Guy

Maybe you have 2.2.18 and 2.4.0 installed and that the default is set to 2.2.18. Do you have the option to choose what kernel to boot in the LILO prompt? No, It just has one option linux, pointing to /boot/vmlinuz... and that seems to be 2.2.18 There is a vmlinuz_2.4_GB in /boot, but when I set up lilo manually with an extra entry pointing to that, it fails when trying to load the modules...

So, was the modutils package correctly upgraded to 2.4.x and/or does the kernel modules directory for this version exists under /lib/modules? The modules directory for 2.4 exist... I configured LILO (also manually)... but it's not working. I've tried the upgrade on a second machine, same deal... :-( I'm having trouble with the mailinglist to, I'm reading these messages trough my browser in the archives...

Modules should be in place, the rpm installed them for me correctly. Check your /lib/modules directory.

Does the graphical lilo screen come up , choose the entry you want form there , or go into lilo and remove those you no longer want , then run lilo agien. Keep a boot disk handy.

Hi, If your system is a pure IDE system, have a look at : http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/yast1_kernel24_install.html Did you upgrade yast1 ? ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse_update/7.1/a1 Hope this helps. filip Le Vendredi 23 Mars 2001 09:27, Guy Van Sanden a écrit :

Hi, I'm really enjoying this list - have learned a lot... I just recently upgraded my brand new SuSE 7.1 install to KDE 2.1, and virtually ALL of the KDE icons are gone - even the icons for the buttons in the Konqueror toolbar! Does anyone know how I can get these back? I've looked everywhere on SuSEs site but can't find anything about this problem. TIA Charles Marcus
