How can I record from my Sony DCR-HC19E on OpenSUSE 100 ? Setting USB Stream on the videocam, I get this from dmesg: usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 usbcore: registered new driver snd-usb-audio So it seems to recognize the device. If I'm correct, what next?

IMHO, it recognizes it as sound card. So most probably you may record sound on the camcorder :) If it has firewire port, that's another story - install kino (there was a package for it for 9.1 in the apt repository, so maybe there is for 10.0 as well). Also, at least on my camcorder (Panasonic), the USB port is used only for picture transfers, not video. The video is transferred through firewire only. It's clearly stated in my manual. Was afraid so! An expensive mike...

Funny thing is that the cam comes without a firewire cable. Guess I have to buy one to see if it can record on Linux. And yes, there is a kino for 10.0.

Ops, I just read the tech specs for this unit. It does not have firewire port, so I do not know.

But it does. Sony calls it i.Link. Not perfectly certain about this, but: It looks like connector with 4 fires, just as in my laptop. Hope it will work...
