[opensuse] Where can I find the Image of the Handout DVD?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have been told that the Handout DVD is able to do an installation from it. I would like to get and burn this image to play with it? I know of the two, but the person I was talking with said Novell gave out CD/DVD much like the live dvd but was able to be installed. Much like what I have been told is on some magazines. He was not sure which event he attended that they were handed out. He was able to use the live portion to partition the HD and then do the install to it. He was not really familar with SUSE Linux, but was very impressed with this ability. This is really what I am seaking. Use the CD/DVD to test the hardware to make sure everything works, then install it to the system being tested. This is what I am after for the student I work with teaching them linux. I believe the more we get students to use SUSE Linux the more it will become the top distribution. I know that when I was doing some schooling at the Universtity, that apple almost gave away their stuff to teachers and students. This then brought apple into many businesses. I know that many of the people using Redhat came to it the same way. They received their training at the University and later brought it to the companies. I think Novell could really benifit from getting this into the hands of students rather than some other Linux Distribution. Students are really tight for funds so making things easily available to them I feel is an important stepping stone to making SUSE Linux the top Linux Distribution. That's a DVD that contains two ISOs - the live DVD and the installable DVD with a changed loader to choose between them. You can get each piece separatly but there's not much sense in adding another 4 GB on the ftp mirrors, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
Is there some source where I could download this image. I would like to play with it? I understand not wanting to add yest another iso image to the download trees. I would like to get and burn this image to play with it? Under the aspect of 'playing' I would say ubuntu is worth a closer look.
Where may I download a copy of the image? May be you friend was thinking of this dvd (may be he muddled ubuntu and opensuse by mistake) when he pointed you to opensuse.

seems roughtly the same as with yast. With Knoppix (live cd) there where only a small script to copy the cd on the HD. I would like to add such functionality to CD/DVD to handout to students and others to promote SUSE Linux. I have made a lot of coasters trying to add this to the Live DVD I downloaded. It must not be that hard. I just must be having brain cramps. Having the DVD/CD would allow me to see exactly how it is done. Then the new project to create a small memory SUSE Linux could use this for the project once we have a beta,... and I could add it to the OpenSUSE wiki. Take a look at SLAX Linux, Boyd or anyone, it's an excellent example of a mini Linux and installable as well from a 3" cd disc! One of the fastest live CDs I think I have ever used and from what I can tell kicks Knoppix's butt for most everything. It's built for testing, repairing and general usage while on the road. www.slax.org It's another good Slackware derivative, just like SuSE, but the developer put a lot of new things into it (2.6.16 kernel). I've played with it all weekend and ended up installing it on a test machine. Shown it around a bit too. It's nice to see the "wow" look on regular windows user's faces when it starts so fast from the cd. It may give everyone a clue on making a SuSE mini, micro or dvd installable and a better Live CD as well. regards, Lee --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org
