Computer won't fully shutdown
This is probably a hardware setting problem, so I don't know if you guys can help, but everyone was so helpful with my other prob I might as well try... Everything halts normally, and it gets to the point where is says something about the computer is shutting down, and just stops there. And of course turning off the power button on this particular machine resets it, as opposed to turning it off. Anyone know what I have to do to make it shut down completely? Blake

You don't mention which version of Suse you're running. If it's v9.0 then insert in the file /boot/grub/menu.lst title Linux kernel (hd0,xx) ...... apm=real-mode-poweroff <== these words or if you are using lilo then insert in the section which boots linux append=" apm=real-mode-poweroff" Note the deliberate space before the word apm, also note the use of "". Also, make sure that in your BIOS settings you have PnP System Installed set to NO and also turn off ACPI. Cheers. -- Wagner's music is really not as bad as it sounds.

You know Basil, a lot of machines these days NEED acpi in order for all of the devices to work. You may want to considder this before you suggest a newbie start arbitrarily turning it off. My Sony Vaio has no sound, no firewire, no modem, no mem-stick with acpi=off. Its not an option, period. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
