I am still running SuSE 10.3. Is upgrading to the newest version doable without reinstalling the new OS from scratch ? When I was running an earlier version I could use LaTeX to write my thesis. Now I need to use it again. I had a look at Yast s/w manager. I could find TeX but no LaTeX. Am I missing something ? Is it to be downloaded from some repository ? I am using the same version, on 32 bits. I have installed latex on my system downloaded from the standard repo. Here is the output of 'zypper se latex': +--------------------------+--------------+------- i | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | package | latex2html | 2002.2.1-478 | noarch i | openSUSE:10.3 | package | latex2html | 2002.2.1-478 | noarch i | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | package | latex2html-pngicons | 2002.2.1-478 | noarch i | openSUSE:10.3 | package | latex2html-pngicons | 2002.2.1-478 | noarch v | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | package | texlive-bin-latex | 2007-68 | i586 v | openSUSE:10.3 | package | texlive-bin-latex | 2007-68 | i586 i | http://download.opensuse.org/update/10.3/ | package | texlive-bin-latex | 2007-68.3 | i586 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | package | texlive-cjk-latex-extras | 20070515-43 | noarch | openSUSE:10.3 | package | texlive-cjk-latex-extras | 20070515-43 | noarch v | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | package | texlive-latex | 2007-69 | noarch v | openSUSE:10.3 | package | texlive-latex | 2007-69 | noarch -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

For openSuSE you may have a look at
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Publishing/
for TeX Live 2008

Thank you.
Which one shall I download ? I see the same packages already displayed by the s/w manager of Yast.
I remember I could call latex with the text file and ask for a readable formatted output (extension dvi ). I cannot see any such command.
Thank you
Maura

That should be texlive-bin-latex I guess. Personally I prefer to install kile (IDE for latex) which will automatically install all other packages related to latex. -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I usually install texlive-latex, which depends on texlive-bin-latex and
brings some other dependencies (can't remember which ones now though)
