Hi, Looks like SuSE has the apt-get functionality integrated (ftp.gwdg.de has a directory apt) Has anyone used apt-get for SuSE/apt and if so comments are appreciated -- Togan Muftuoglu
Togan, you're quick, it should have remained a secret for some time ;) It ain't suse that is providing the apt repository though. It is being created from the suse rpm repository that is being mirrored by gwdg. Op maandag 25 maart 2002 11:26, schreef Togan Muftuoglu:

Yes, I (and some others as well) have already for a loonngggg time and it works very very well! More info at the underneath url. Info how to use the the gwdg apt repository can be found at that url as, follow the link about apt repositories (called apt-rpm reps). BTW: if you do an apt-get upgrade of the base component many many packages are going to be updated as they differ just a little compared to the packages that have been delivered via the suse CD's. So you may want to leave out the component "base" to lower the number of packages to be updated. A last note, I've done a 7.2 -> 7.3 upgrade via apt-get upgrade and it worked as desired :)) Be carefull when the kernel is being updated (automatically) as it required lilo and mk_initrd to be run. -- Richard Bos For those without home the journey is endless http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net

I seem to find it impossible to use here, the only thing that works is that when I run apt-get upgrade, it warns me that it will delete all of my KDE3 beta packages without downloading anything new. apt-get update doesn't work at all, nor does apt-get update update. I tried it with the sample apt.conf file at gwdg, but no joy.

I got hold of libapt and apt4rpm the other day to try it out. Read most of the docs but can't find out why it doesn't work. I just get "bash: apt-get: command not found". Tried running apt-get as root and as a user. SuSE 7.3. Maybe I've missed something that is very fundamental here ? Any help appreciated :) Thanks -- Richard www.sheflug.co.uk
The sources.list took a little tweaking for me. Here is what I have: rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/7.3-i386 update kde gnome xfree86 mozilla ximian apt4rpm security (well, that is all on one line in the file /etc/apt/sources.list Glen Goldsmith -----Original Message----- From: Joshua Lee [mailto:yid@softhome.net] Sent: Sunday, March 31, 2002 12:17 PM To: Richard Bos Cc: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] apt-get for SuSE On Mon, 25 Mar 2002 20:48:39 +0100 Richard Bos <allabos@freeler.nl> wrote:
