Some KMail questions (why I miss The Bat from Windows)
Are any of these options available now in KMail or soon slated for a later version? Some of these options I really miss. 1) Have spelling checked as you type 2) Show the number of messages in each folder (not just unread ones) 3) Be able to have more columns in the list of messages. I'd like one for "TO" as sometimes I might have some small lists go to one folder and you can't tell just by looking what list it came from all the time unless you see the TO address) 4) Ability to 'park' messages. In The Bat on windows and in sylphleed-claws on linux I can quickly go through and flag some messages that I want to read later but don't necessarilly want to move to a saved folder (since they might not even be worth it). The benefit of this is it then allows me to delete all the messages in the folder except for the parked messages. This I find extremely useful for large volumes lists- when your busy you can go through and mark some you want to read and then quickly delete the whole folder leaving the parked ones behind. 5) Ability to right click on a message and code it with a color. I use this a lot. Makes certain messages stand out. 6) Add a quick memo to a message that will show up as a column in the list of messages. This is very useful for maybe some threads that have the same subject and you want to save them off and briefly give them a memo so you know what it had to do with. (How often do you click through a bunch of saved messages in a thread just to find what you need? Yes I know you can search but a quick memo like 'Steps for doing X' would be very nice). Thanks for any feedback. -- Rick

Not natively. And there is no tool I'm aware of that will allow this in kmail.
2) Show the number of messages in each folder (not just unread ones)
Look in the lower left corner.....there should be a number indicating the total of that particular folder.
3) Be able to have more columns in the list of messages.
I believe not.
4) Ability to 'park' messages.
For your (and my) 1.4.3 version, no. I'm pretty sure that the 3.1 desktop version protects 'important' messages.
5) Ability to right click on a message and code it with a color. I use this a lot. Makes certain messages stand out.
The only change in color allowed is the color of the 'important' message for the current version.
6) Add a quick memo to a message that will show up as a column in the list of messages.
Nice option to have but I think we're currently out of luck. Check out http://kmail.kde.org/ for insight into what the future has in store for this program. hth Ken

Sort of a "what he said", but with possible workarounds: 1) spellchecking does exist [edit | spelling...], it's just not automatic (though I suppose you knew that ;) ) 1.1) add a toolbar button for spellchecking -- in the message composer, choose settings | configure toolbars -- make sure you have the "main" toolbar selected [it might be the only choice "for now"...] -- scroll down the left column till you find "spelling..." and select it; this should enable the right-arrow to move the "action" to the "active" toolbar -- apply/close to set this -- you now have one-click spellchecking! 2) create an "outgoing" rule to pipe the message through an external spellchecker -- sure, it's a kludge, but guarantees some form of attempt to spellcheck is made for every message
