I just want to be up and running and get some "advice" about critical areas of security.
All areas of security are critical. The most important bit is the bit you ignore or don't understand.

If you want to test and play, install apache on one of your internal machines, away from untrusted users. That's simple - it'll work out of the box.
Sounds like a plan to me. Then sign up for one of those cheap web hosting services (for $10/mo) that some one suggested. So you then can have asap Home linux box with pictures of your carpet on it --> going to your apache box ---> going to your firewal box ----> going to you (cheap) temporary hosting IP service where you will upload your carpet pictures and we (the public) can view them without you worrying we are looking at your other files on your home linux machine. Then, after you have RTFM, you can choose to get rid of the cheap hosting service--- or not FYI, I have been re-reading Bruce Schneier's "Secrets and Lies...." IMHO, Just as cluster computing is becaoming more and more common --- i think "chains" of computers such as I outlined above will become more common --- not just for security, but anonymity, integrity, robustness, etc. HTH __________________________________________________________________ McAfee VirusScan Online from the Netscape Network.
