Installed 6.4 onto a Compaq Presario 1270 laptop and everything works great except for a problem with the touchpad pointer. It frequently jumps to edge of the screen and occasionally clicks on things on its own. This is very annoying as you can imagine. I've tried various settings in sax and XF86setup with no change. The touchpad specs call it a PS/2 device and that's what makes it work the best but still

jumping around. Other setting are the scanned ones as to video, cards, etc. Any suggestions? (I stuck a mouse in, both PS/2 and serial, with the same result) David
This actually seems to be a problem produced by Compaq. The touchpad is made by Synaptics and the last time I looked at their site there was a special (windows) driver for the presario line. There are some ways around this issue. Have a look at these sites. http://www.delanoscientific.com/cpq1675.html http://obone.net/network/Compaq1670/LinuxInstall.html On my 1670 I gave up on the touchpad and went with a usb mouse (mostly because the touchpad is in the wrong place for me). I am surprised you had a problem with a serial mouse, the only thing I can suggest is to compile ps/2 mouse support out of the kernel or try upgrading it to 2.2.18 (just released). Good luck, Tim
