Ok I downloaded a new kernel rpm and installed it but when I rebooted lilo stopped, so I booted under SuSE but that didn´t go any further either. Any ideas on how to reinstall the original kernel? using the suse cd I can boot the system into rescue mode.

What exactly do you mean by "lilo stopped"? Boot into SuSE using the rescue mode and run 'lilo -v'. Post back any errors and reboot. Everything should be fine. -- Karol Pietrzak PGP KeyID: 3A1446A0

did you run lilo after upgrading the kernel
I downloaded an rpm kernel from the suse ftp, after installing I reboot and run lilo and it displays the following Loading Suse Linux.............................. _ after the underscore it stops, doesn´t do anything, hard reset, then using cd 1 I can boot into rescue mode Karol Pietrzak wrote:

Did you run lilo and mk_initrd after upgrading the kernel?

Presumably not ... but it's the other way round, mk_initrd and then lilo:-)) Clinton, these two commands need to be executed on the command line (i.e. in an xterm e.g.) after an update using a kernel rpm.
