[opensuse] System requirements for Open Suse 11.3
I want to buy a new computer for installing Open Suse 11.4. According to the manual, there are the following system requirements: "Pentium* III 500 MHz or higher processor (Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or higher or any AMD64 or Intel* EM64T processor recommended)" Since I am not very familiar with hardware, I have two questions: 1. Do the requirements cited above include Intel i3 and i5, or are these processors lower than Pentium* III? 2. Do the requirements cited above include AMD Phenom II X4 N950 Quad or is this Porcessor lower than than Pentium* III? Thanks in advance for you help and best regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Wolfgang, If you have intel i3, i5 or AMD Phenom processors... you'll be just fine :) Those blow the PIII out of the water :) -Matt -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Those are very very much faster than a Pentium III 500 Mhz.
2. Do the requirements cited above include AMD Phenom II X4 N950 Quad or is this Porcessor lower than than Pentium* III?
Same for this one. Note that a Quad-core CPU has 4 CPU cores, while Intel i3, i5 are dual core CPUs which have 2 CPU cores. (more core -> more speed) Hope that helps. -- İsmail Dönmez - openSUSE Booster SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Wolfgang. To learn more about Processors look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_microprocessors#32-bit_processors... and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_microprocessors#K7_core_architectur... That should load the page at the right place and go downthe page to see how these 2 manufacturers have moved forward with their chips. If you go up the page you will see older processors. Have fun! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
