You can verify SusE distribution CD and DVD checksums using YaST: YaST -> Software -> Media Check Select the drive in which you've inserted the disc whose checksum you want to verify and click the "Start Check" button. Here are the MD5 sums for the five CDs in the SuSE 9.3 Professional distribution: SuSE Professional 9.3: CD1: b023fa3842de53680401838743a1a2d3 CD2: 1606bc6c426795fec221722dc223763a CD3: dff78bd0a5cd297193c2bad76ec6b2ec CD4: 25a1518ffe135bf296b676edf5c68387 CD5: 92ea31abe6b42aec17f139da4ba6013d If you're interested (you know, for trivia games and such), the MD5 sum for the Windows XP Professional + SP2 OEM install disc (volume label "CDIMAGE 2.52 (03/09/2004 TM)") is 93b79d6f491f4808671ab738a5a20760. In SuSE 9.2 a number of packages were not included on the CDs that were on
the DVD. Since 5 CDs certainly contain less that the 8MB on a DVD I was
wondering if anyone knows what is missing.

I believe this list's archive contain URLs for the Novell pages where the CD and DVD package manifest is specified. You could also rummage around on their site to find them.

Probably. ;-) Actually, if you'd bothered to check the SuSE site, you'd have found the list. http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/professional/diff_cd_dvd.html

James: SuSE starting coming out on both DVDs and CDs beginning with (I think) 9.1. Do you know if it has always been the case that there are packages on the CD that aren't on the DVD's? Just curious. Greg Wallace

For your info, It goes back much longer. I still have here the dvd-version of release 6.4 So it is at least 6.4, perhaps even before that. Hans

9.1 was the first time I got a DVC with my box set of SuSE from SuSE. Before that, all I got in the box were CDs. Greg Wallace

I don't see anything like that in 9.2. Is it new to 9.3?

I don't really know. I can't say I remember seeing it in my previous installation, which was 9.1. I never ran 9.2. But if you don't see it, then it's a good guess it's new. Randall Schulz
