I think this has something to do with DNS. If your computer cannot do a reverse ip address to name lookup then ftp and telnetting will take quite a while (10-15 seconds?) before you get the login prompt. A solution might be to put the machine names and ip addresses that you use to telnet from into your /etc/hosts file, or to re-enable named. Kieran

Hi ,

Recently I 'm having problems to telnet to one of my machine on the local network.

The machine responce it's very, very slow... any idea why, or could sombody suggest me what to check or how to debug the problem ?

I recently disable all the services (a part from telnet) on my inetd.conf file since then the connection takes ages.

I disable root access and created a new account which I use for telnetting the machine.

Do I need to enable any package in conjunction with telnet?

Any help would be appreciated
