As mentioned earlier, I'm considering switching. So I'm wondering if I should go with 9.0 or 9.1. I can't get 9.1 right now and it seems like 9.0 is more stable. Is this correct? I hate to downgrade my Gnome apps, but if they work fine...? I don't know. Tough call. Does Ximian Desktop really fill in the gap in terms of being upgrade to the latest Gnome on SuSE 9.0? Preston
Hi Preston, To be perfectly honest, I think Suse is not the way to go if you want Gnome on the desktop. It is adequate, it works, but Suse is a mainly KDE distribution. I was in the exact same place you are now, however, and ever since I changed Gnome for KDE and Evolution for Kontact, I haven't been happier. So if you are willing to do the same go ahead, Suse is for you. Otherwise, if you are happy enough with Gnome as it is, stay with Fedora. 011 On Friday 14 May 2004 19:03, Preston Crawford wrote:

Having said that I believe Novell with their Ximian acquisition is likely to push a lot more for Gnome stuff I guess.

True, and I believe that they will be the ones to truly unify the Linux desktop - however, Suse 9.1 Pro is a very KDE-based distro. Gnome is an afterthought, I guess it's only there so that reviewers aren't complaining of its not being there... 011

Cannot remember a version of SuSE where its not been there. The only complaint I have heard from reviewers on 9.1, which is not that much of a complaint really, is that the version of Gnome shipping is Gnome 2.4, not 2.6. 2.6 came out too late to be included. Have Gnome installed, just have not yet checked it out :). Matt
Just curious, why are you more satisfied with Kontact? /Fredrik Björk fre 2004-05-14 klockan 20.52 skrev Fortean:

It integrates better into the KDE desktop, feels much MUCH faster than Evolution, has a lot more options to waste time on, has a very functional newsreader, integrates perfectly with the desktop (number of messages received on the notification area) and generally just feels like it's more than a very good outlook clone. There are things I didn't like as well, like the keyboard shortcuts being weird to get used to coming from outlook, the red colour for unread messages and some other minor gripes but generally I think the KDE team did a very good team of integrating previously separate apps. 011 On Friday 14 May 2004 23:47, Fredrik Björk wrote:
