Ron, The way you tell a file is symlink is to do a ls -l <filename> and if the first chartacter is a 'l' then it is a symlink, if not it is not. Colour is not a good measure of a file type, everyones system could be setup differently. Lach Ron Lavoie wrote:

/usr/src/linux-2.0.32 *does* contain Makefile (or is it in usr/src/linux-2.0.32/arch/i386/boot? I can't remember).
