Re: [SLE] [suse] prob upgrading 2.2.16 to 2.4.21 (suse 7.0 pro)
You are probably right, rpm version is 3.0.4 and cpio is 2.4.2 I will see what I can do, starting with cpio upgrade, and then rpm. Later I will post my results. Many thanks Joao ----------------------- Ken Schneider wrote Just a guess as you are running SuSE 7.0 -- it may be a problem the the version of rpm that you are using. I believe you are using ver. 3.x and the newer kernel rpm is built (I think) using ver. 4.x. If this is the case you will need to update rpm as well. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please* "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

If I were you, I would just use mc to extract/copy the files in the kernel rpm to the correct locations as root and create a different entry in your lilo.conf for the new kernel. Too much has changed IMHO to expect a couple of upgrades (rpm, cpio, etc.) to work, without messing something else up. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871
