SuSE 9.0 installation. Want to have a setup that once I login (ie runlevel 5 as default) I have Evolution start on Desktop 1, konqueror;GAIM;XMMS; on Desktop 2, Mozilla with three tabs on Desktop 3, Shell on Desktop four. I know I can do some of this functionality with ~/.session and Gnome has a "Session" editor to do some pieces (though I would prefer to stick with KDE for now). The only option that I have found is to change KDE to either restart KDE without any saved state, or with saved state, but I many times have multiple applications open or in various states when I shutdown and don't want to have to 'baby' the shutdown procedures. -- Thanks, Jeremey Wise Jeremey.Wise@Agilysys.com

You could use the session manager in KDE. Set things up the way you want it, then log out. You can then log back in and turn off the auto save, and set the session manager to remember the saved session. You can even hand it a list of applications to ignore if you want to keep the auto-save feature rolling. I can't imagine needing to baby KDE! --andy
