how many points for dvd/cd-rom
Folks, I am seeing one mount point for my DVD/CD-rom player. The rom drive works fine with CDs, but when I try to play a music CD it cannot find any CD. This drive is mounted as /dev/dvd and it seems to me it needs to be mounted twice: once as a dvd and a second time as a /dev/cdplayer. Is that right? Do I just create a second mount point and manually mount it (fstab, mount points, etc...)? Thanks, Babu __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Am I right in thinking you're trying to mount a music cd? Don't do that! You don't mount music cds, you just play them. Just fire up one of the cd player programs and start playing! //Anders
Sorry for the confusion, I am NOT trying to mount the music CD. I launch kcd or other media player and it tells me there is NO CD in the player. For data CDs I can access just fine. Babu --- Anders Johansson <andjoh@cicada.linux-site.net> wrote:

OK, is the application set up to use the correct device? //Anders
Ah, that is what I tried to do, but I could not find any setting that allowed me to specify the device. I actually have multiple CD/DVD-rom devices and would like to be able to use all of them for playing music CDs. I tried KCD and it won't work. I also tried the other cd player that installs with SuSE and still no luck. Babu --- Anders Johansson <andjoh@cicada.linux-site.net> wrote:

In the kscd setup dialog, the "CD-ROM Device" setting is fairly difficult to miss in the version I have. In xmms, you set it in the "configure plugin" dialog of the AudioCD plugin.

To the best of my knowledge you need to have a cable connecting the cd player to the soundcard to be able to play music cds.

"other"? I can think of four cd players in SuSE 8.0: kscd, xmms, cda and workman. I'm sure there are more. Which have you tried? Also, do you have scsi emulation on your cd player? If so, make sure you have full permissions on the /dev/sg* special files. //Anders
