You said you were trying to edit the XF86Config file, are you sure you are not supposed to to edit the XF86Config-4 file? Are you running XFree 3 or 4?
Not sure, whatever comes with SuSE 8 & gets configured with SAX2 ... pretty sure it's 4. I noticed that anyway and I can't find an XF86Config-4 file anywhere, only a XF86Config file!
