Does 9.0 fry CDROMs?
Someone on my LUG mailing list just said that SUSE has the same LG CDROM destroying problem that Mandrake has. Is that true? Nothing about it in the SDB. --

Derek, To the best of our knowledge right now, SuSE does not have this bug. This was apparently introduced by Mandrake into their kernel and only affects the LG branded cdroms, not the cdrws. I understand that a bios update is available from LG for their buggy drives, this also fixes things. Companies such as Compaq, Dell and a couple of others use LG drives rebranded with their name. Has there been official word from SUSE? If there was I missed it!

You would probably do better to ask SuSE then a SuSE mail list, don't you think? Contact their support or some other direct link, if this is a concern because you own a LG branded drive. Yes, maybe, but it seemed a fair question to ask this list. I expect one of the SUSE guys will answer when they wake up - it's still very early in Europe as I type this. --

It was in the very early hours of the morning and I was on my third CD installing 9.0 when I realised I wasn't using the DVD. It's had no problems with any 9.0 CD's or the DVD. I've held off upgrading the Mandrake box to 9.2 until I see fixed iso's as I don't know whose innerds are under my CD's metal. Regards Sid. Derek Fountain wrote:
