[SLE] mailing lists in K-Mail, SuSE 9.3: where are they kept?
Hi, everyone. Asking this question for my husband who's temporarily off the list. He copied his K-Mail folders and files from a SuSE 9.3 desktop to a DVD and then transferred them to his 10.0 laptop. All of the e-mail messages moved just fine, as did the individual e-mail addresses in the address book. However, two mailing lists he had created in K-Mail (for sending the same message to multiple addressees) did not show up on the laptop. The only choice when using the laptop is "resources." The option (tick box) for mailing lists is not there. So the question is: Where in SuSE 9.3 K-Mail are the mailing lists stored? Which folder/file should he look in so he can copy them over to the 10.0 laptop? KDE has a shared addressbook (internally known as KABC) for all KDE applications. It didn't copy across with the mail messages and settings because they it is stored in a different place. Generally I recommend using something like "kdar" to copy the entire .kde directory when moving machines - it's cleaner to do that then revert the wallpaper to that from the new release and shove all the desktop icons into a dir named TIDYME than to move useful stuff piecemeal. Anyway. The dir your husband should copy to get the addressbook and mailing lists is ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/ including all contents. The mailing lists you are looking for are in the file 'distlists' in that dir, FYI. ~/.kde/share/config/kaddressbookrc (kaddressbook settings) ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc (kmail settings) ~/.kde/share/config/korganizerrc ~/.kde/share/apps/korganzier (korganizer settings, and data) ~/.kde/share/config/kresources* (addressbook and calendar remote resources, if used) are all relevant to migrate PIM type data too. You see why I just tar up the whole .kde dir and move that... Will, thanks! That worked. .kde/share/apps/kabc/distlists was not copied over from the DVD when I did the original setup on the laptop. No idea why it was not transferred over. I also recopied over from the DVD .kde/share/config/kaddressbookrc and .kde/share/config/kmailrc Magic! The mailing lists are now there.
