if it's an isa plug and play modem you might want to look at isapnp and set it up. It's pretty easy. Once you go through that process you should be o.k.
Have used YaST to install modem, COM1. Have wvdial and associated stuff installed. When I enter wvdialconf/ etc/wvdial.conf, the system replies that no modem was found. Am very new at this, sorry, must be missing something sort of basic...
