Yes --- Your output has "error." As you guessed: it is not how it should look --- You didn't say what you were doing, but I am guessing installing some rpm or updating the system in some way--- Did you force a patch? Or Fail to satisfy some dependency? Probably -- both, each, and all I would start by removing "pixieplus" as root via a virtual or actual consol (eg: ctrl + alt + F2) (rpm -e pixieplus* ) When I was installing Gnome2 on my 8.0 box I got a lot of similar messages and I just kept plugging away and now the only "bad" message I have is: SuSEwm: ERROR: gnome: no "name" defined ! Good luck PS I updated a lot of libraries so I also ran "ldconfig -v" as root (I would do: "SuSEconfig", "ldconfig -v", and then "SuSEconfig"; after each "major change") I also looked at every file in kpackage for missing dependencies, as well as running "rpm -Va" and go over that output.. __________________________________________________________________ Try AOL and get 1045 hours FREE for 45 days! http://free.aol.com/tryaolfree/index.adp?375380 Get AOL Instant Messenger 5.1 for FREE! You should enter that as a new message to the list; but try to mount the CD from the console (both as user and root), and look up the logs (message and kernel) for errors about the CD. Also, information about /dev/cdrom (and what it points to) and the relevant line of /etc/fstab (one!) will be needed. Also, check the /var/log/boot.msg to see how the cdrom is detected (ide, scsi, and which channel). Or, you might simply read the list archives, because I think your kind of problem has been treated several times. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

No, that's why it's listed as "notinstalled". If you try "ls -a /etc/X11/susewm/kde_tmp_dir_old/Settings/YaST/notinstalled/Graphics/Viewer", do you see anything then? btw, I don't think you mentioned how you ran SuSEconfig. Where you root or regular user?

This isn't as root, this is as user "dbtrol". Try again, as root.

Still permission denied? Then - assuming it's on a local disk and not mounted from a file server - I'd say your file system is corrupted somehow. Time for an fsck.

Check which partitions are relevant. Look, for example, in /etc/fstab to make certain which partition(s) are in use for /var. Let's say it's /dev/hda3, and that it's using reiserfs (check by running 'mount' and look for the partition, and see which file system it's using. Candidates are ext2, ext3, reiser, xfs) Boot from the CD, and select rescue system. When you get the prompt, run the proper fsck for the file system you're using. For example, using reiser you run reiserfsck /dev/hda3

Thanks Anders, Ran reiserfsck and it had me run --rebuild-tree. Now SuSEconfig works. All is working now except the cdrom and cd-r, but I will tyr to google out this problem first.
