Hi. I'm running SuSE 8.0 on this computer. On another I use SuSE 7.2. I have ADSL with a Speedstream 2601 router. Its set up to work with web, and the ip is the one of the SuSE 7.2 computer. My problem is that some can connect my Apache server from outside via my fixed ip, but other cannot. What can maybe cause this problem ??. I am not sure what you mean by this question. What I understood is someone from the internet can connect your webserver yet your internal machine cannot connect to the webserver is that the case or ? -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx

Erik, have a look at: http://www.bignosebird.com/apache/a5.shtml 406 does not indicate that there is a connection problem, but: 406: Not Acceptable (encoding) I'm no expert on the matter, however: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/content-negotiation.html does give a hint about where the problem might lie. Is the client at 80.197.188.226 a W$ host? I ask because I've seen a lot of 406's in various LANs when I've set up some local apache, and wanted to check it out with some W$ host. I've never actually pursued the problem, because it's never been important to me. Usually my reaction has just been "sheesh!" HTH Jon Clausen

Erik,
Hi Jon.
have a look at: http://www.bignosebird.com/apache/a5.shtml
Will have a look at the page.
406 does not indicate that there is a connection problem, but:
406: Not Acceptable (encoding)
I'm no expert on the matter, however:
Nor am I. Also not on that :-).
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/content-negotiation.html

You are right, he is :-)

Right. As I said, I've seen this many times with default suse test-page.
The problem here is, that not all can reach me on my fixed IP:
Let's define the term 'reach', so that we don't misunderstand each other here. To me 'reach' means that a connection is established between the client and the server. Now, the mere fact that the client [80.197.188.226] appears in the Apache log means that a connection *has* been established. Which means that the W$ client *has* in fact 'reached' your server. The problem is that the W$ client puts its request to Apache in such a way that Apache doesn't accept it. (Or so I think...)

Looks fine to me :) Try putting up some other pages, and see if the 'problem' persists maybe? HTH Jon Clausen

I mean that some from abroad can link me via my IP. Some can not.

Well Jon the problem get solved yesterday. I went thru some of the log files. I could then see, that the file index.html was ok, and was called fine. But some times the called file was index.html.de or .en. That was the culprit As soon as the file has been renamed all that try to link me could do it. This means, that the problem has passed now. I thank you Jon, and have a nice sunny day.
