Hi All, I just like to know, how do ya perform a full Suse 9.0 Professional Edition installation ? I understand that Suse 9.0 had 5 cd, so I just able to install the first two cd and I'm wondering how do I install the 3rd, 4th & 5th cd ? I understand that it is used for development purpose right but how to install it ? During the installation there is a menu that show how many percent of installation completed for each cd but it will only allow me to install the 1st & 2nd CD. Do I need to manually install the 3rd, 4th & 5th CD ? Is there a option that allow me to continue the installation from 3rd CD ? Even it is used for development purpose one still need to know how to install right ? The reason I'm asking for help is I want to know the sequence on how to install all those remaining *.rpm. I understand that there might had some dependency to install certain *.rpm. If not it will fail, of not working. Don't tell me that none of u in these list know how to install including those people in Suse that develop it. All help r welcome. Cheers. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi All,

I understand that Suse 9.0 had 5 cd, so I just able to install the first two cd and I'm wondering how do I install the 3rd, 4th & 5th cd ? Yep, you probably don't want everything possible from the massive
collection. For some jubs there are different ways of doing something, and you may not want both at once.
I understand that it is used for development purpose right but how to install it ? During the installation there is a menu that show how many percent of installation completed for each cd but it will only allow me to install the 1st & 2nd CD. If anything you requested needed those disks, YAST would have told you to insert them.
It sounds like you should try once, play around with what you got, then maybe go back to add (instal) more things things later. If you have a clean hard drive and are not trying to protect important data, then it really is useful to do the whole install a couple times, picking different options each time.
Do I need to manually install the 3rd, 4th & 5th CD ? Is there a option that allow me to continue the installation from 3rd CD ? No, you go to individual selection option and select more packages. YAST will pretty much give you whatever you need for the items you pick. It will usually tell you if you picked packages that conflict with each other.
Even it is used for development purpose one still need to know how to install right ? The reason I'm asking for help is I want to know the sequence on how to install all those remaining *.rpm. Load it up, do it again from the beginning, and then a couple more times. The installer itself is a pretty good teacher. Experiment with it.
I understand that there might had some dependency to install certain *.rpm. If not it will fail, of not working. Don't tell me that none of u in these list know how to install including those people in Suse that develop it.

When I teach grade schoolers to install SuSE, I always put them into the individual selection window for GAMES, and let them read about different games, learn how to select, how to de-select, how to read the dependency info. By that time they are usually comfortable. Enjoy.

Via YaST you can install additional RPM's, it will tell you if what you want to install conflicts with other installed packages and offers ways of avoiding the conflicts. Sometimes I ignore the warnings as I'm sure I need both packages. Regards Sid. yfs us wrote:

SuSE employees do not monitor these lists except on their own time. This is not the place to expect tech support, developer support, or immediate official fixes and/or help. Use http://www.suse.de/feedback for support, bug reports, suggestions, comments, etc. On these lists you are getting help and support from fellow users of SuSE Linux. SuSE just provides the hardware and internet connection for us to share. Stan

Correction: don't use this feedback form if you are looking for support. See http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2001/10/bugreport.html If you want support from SUSE and you have a valid support claim that covers the topic of your question than send a support request here: http://portal.suse.com/PM/page/supportRequest.pm Greetings from Bremen hartmut
