re[2]: [SLE] The Linux / Unix Mentality
Yes, linux has definitely matured but is still considered by most to be a hobby OS. This may change within the next 10 or so years.
You are kidding right?
From a server perspective, Linux is a major player today, not in x years.
You need to read some of Fred's postings. They are very informative, and many talk about corporate acceptance. Oracle has announced plans for 100% elimination of Sun Servers in favor of Linux. Many major corporations have also made very public statements about there plan to use the 2.6.x kernel for core systems. Personally, my company's main customer is major automotive manufacturer. We implemented a Java Servlet based system in 1999. In 1999, we were given one choice: WinNT I am currently under a corporate deadline to move off of WinNT (MS is ending support July 1). The major corporation approved choices for a Java Server platform: Solaris (Sun), Redhat, SuSE. Note the absence of MS in that list. Greg -- Greg Freemyer
