how to get to archived messages
I'm seem to have lost the email i had saved on how to search the list archives for some old messages. I'm looking for some info on some suggestions on firewalls an how to set them up. I know there was something in the past week or so on this. I wa hoping to get a good firewall device here at work but my boss thinks what we have in the netgear router is good enough for us. but i disaggree. i'm seeing way too much spyware an other traffic on the network an need to lock things down more so that we do not take such at preformace hit on the network. at times I see our dsl modem lights just flashing away with traffic. I need something to maybe monitor what some of that traffic is on the lan . thanks jack

Go to the page shoing the different lists, clisck on the suse_linux_e list. You will then see the monthly lists. Click on the month you want and search using your browser search option, usually <alt>f. This will at least search the subject line. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2) * PLEASE only reply to the list *

Ok i will take my 50 lashes with the wet noodle now on not reading the faq. honestly I did not think about doing that for how to search the list archives. however I did go to the following link on suse page after someone told where to think a breakdown on the messaged by month. http://www.suse.com/us/private/support/online_help/mailinglists/ however I could not remember what the subject of the messages I had recently read that someone here posted several firewall suggestions with some scripts an all. I know of smoothwall is out there an also the susefirewall2 . Just wondering what the others was in the email. I wished I had saved that email not but since I thought I was going to be able to get a firewall device to go on the network I did not save it. What I wanting is more protection from trojan /worms/ spyware an also some filtering/blocking of sites so that my windows users can not go to porno ect sites. thanks jack

I would recommend using SuSEfirewall2 in combination with squid and dansguardian. We have been using this for over a couple of years and it has worked great. There are no dansguardian rpms for SuSE but it compiles with no problems. If possible, I would also not allow IE to be used (Mozilla instead), but you may not be able to do that one. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871
