When I upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1 last night I used the DVD and it worked perfectly. But now I can't mount it (I don't know if I can mount the CDRecorder - I haven't tried yet). If I click on the DVD icon on the KDE desktop, or
Thanks - I'll give it a try.
I was looking at the article "Cannot Mount CD or DVD" in the
SuSE sdb, and it said to "Insert the modules cdrom and ide-cd in the
variable INITRD_MODULES in the /etc/sysconfig/kernel file, then run
mk_initrd. But when I tried this, it said that these modules don't
exist. ?? Please note I'm running a mantel kernel. Do I need to get
the kernel sources from mantel's directory?

I got the same error, when i upgraded to 8.1. The drive may be
scsi-emulated by default.
cdrecord -scanbus
will say what /dev/scdx it is. Then,
rm /dev/dvd
ln -s /dev/scdx /dev/dvd
solves the problem. Hope it helps.

to mount manually, I get an "input/output" error, and it tells me I have to specify the type. I also noted that in fstab, the DVD is listed as /dev/media. Isn't it supposed to be /dev/sr0 or /dev/sr1 ? Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
