[opensuse] How to save images?
Hello: How can I save images that are opening when I click their thumbnails in certain pages? One example: http://www.45cat.com/record/abbapromo001 the big image that opens after clicking the image in the page. Another example, probably a different type: http://elektronika.vatera.hu/navigacio_adovevo/gps/4_3_gps_mp3_mp4_full_eu_r... Clicking the GPS image on the right opens a bigger image in the midle. How can I save it? I have openSUSE 11.2 with KDE 3.5.10. Mostly I use opera web browser, occasionally firefox or seamonkey. Thanks. Hi For the first link you provided, there is no right click menu available when you open that image, but on the same page there is a link to the image (HTML section), so you could do (in a terminal): wget http://images.45cat.com/abba-fernando-waterloo-mama-mia-hasta-manana-sos- epic-s.jpg In other cases, if you right click on the image you have the option to save that image directly. -- Bogdan Cristea Software Engineer tel: +33 (0)6 21 64 15 81 web: http://sites.google.com/site/cristeab/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Actually there is the right-click menu available for that image. If you are using Firefox and have the NoScript extension installed ensure that this URL is not allowed access to javascript (NoScript will show a big red "S") and you then are able to save the image. (However, if you have allowed this page to have access to javascript then you don't get the menu when you right-click.) Hello all, and thank you for your answers. I apologize for the delayed response. Bogdan: In the first case: What you get with whet is the small low resolution image, not the big one which opens when you click on the preview. Furthermore right click does not open context menu: neither in firefox 10 nor in opera 11.62. In the second case: I can save the small image with right click > save image. But if I left click the image it opens a larger one in the middle of the screen, and I can not save it. Both in firefox and opera right click open a context menu, but they have no save image option. Insomniacto:

Thank you for this. It wasn't even necessary to install noscript addon. Changing preferences>content>javascript options>advanced>unchecking "disable or replace context menus" made the trick and enabled showing of context menu in case of the record image. But it had no effect on the other image, the GPS device. Thank this works as well. (But a little cumbersome if there are plenty of media items as in the case of the GPS device, the page has ~70 media items). But it works. Dave: What browser and/or addons are you using? In case of the GPS I don't have either 'save image as' or 'save link as' option. Anton:
If you are using Firefox I'd recommend the 'down them all' plugin.
Thanks for the tip, I will try it. Once I used to use this addon but not recently. Once more thank you all (even if not named in the message) for your tips. Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks Basil. I tried firefox 11; no difference from firefox 10. Then I installed the noscript addon in both firefox 10 and 11. This made the change. Clicking the large image in the middle opened the image in the same window; the context menu had save image option and the address bar showed the image's address: http://n1.vatera.hu/photos/a2/68/24d5_1_big.jpg I guess this was the same thing that you had. Off topic: firefox 10 and 11 handles differently the image if noscript is active: firefox 10 shows the image in the top left corner of the window with white background. Firefox 11 shows the image in the middle of the windows with dark gray background. All in all now I have different options to save the images (control+I or disable javascript), and I think this question can be considered solved. (However I am not fully satisfied with any of these options. I would like to be able to use context menu save image as when javascript is active. I guess it cannot be done at the moment.) A bit cumbersome perhaps, but you get to see the images as you scroll through them.

It can depend on how the web page is built, and your browser capabilities which may need to include certain extensions. In the 45cat example, in Chrome I can right-click on the Italian flag and a context menu opens allowing me to download the image. But the ABBA image is not built into the page the same way, and that option is not available. However, if I view the page source code, there is a url shown from where the ABBA image is being retrieved; clicking on that retrieves the image into its own page and it can be saved the same way as above. Another method is screen capture. Firefox and Chrome have extensions which can capture from the display vs retrieving a file, with several options for doing so. However, this isn't as clean as retrieving the image file itself. There are other methods, too, but this is what comes to mind offhand. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
