graphic card SIS 630 & SUSE Support
Hello all, just to let you know that some days ago, I sent a message asking for help for a portable and a graphic card that is not recognized on this list. Thank you all for your help! About 4 weeks ago i sent the 1st message asking for help to SUSE support. I didnt received anything and I accidentaly deleted the ticket number, so I could not claim for it, and didn't insist on it. The 17/Aug/01, I sent another one. From this 2nd one, I received an answer the 23/Aug/01, with instructions on how to fix the problem of the graphic card by using framebuffer, etc. I think that 7 days is a nice average tech support. They didnt answered everything because I had many questions, but I'm quite happy. Also to thank SUSE by sending me the lovely stickers they have when buying from their web! They haven't paid me for saying this! As I was not lucky to convince the other people in my company by convincing one of our most important clients past 16/Aug/01, I'll have another chance in October.. Wish me your bests by then! If someone is interested, I'll post after weekend, if I was able to fix it or not, and how I did it, if so. Luz Futten (Fuengirola - Malaga - Spain)

Perhaps you could post the soultion to your problems so that others may benefit when searching the archive?
Of course! As I keep fixing all the stuff I'll post it here! And also, I can do a spanish translation of it to post it somewhere else, as this types of portables are becoming very common in spain because of its price... 1000MHz+256MbRAM, 20gig,15"TFT 1024x768+ 32mb graphic card+ modem+ethernet+2usb+vga out+line IN+micro +headphones out, etc. for the equivalent in spanish currency to less than 2400 euros... Hello, Mr Futten. Hello, friends of the ML... I am glad i found out another guy who has had the same problem i had. Could you gently post the solution that you received? Thanks in advance. Gabriele
Hi Luz, I just setup a Xserver for a friend using this chipset. The problem is something relating to the LCD display. If you plug in a normal monitor you will find sax2 works, but with the LCD it just greys out. There are a number of items relating to this I found on the web. The only way I managed to get this display to work on a LCD was using the VESA frame buffer. Please have a look at http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/cg_framebuffer.html for instructions on setting it up. Wish you luck. Regards, Graham Smith _______________________________________
